JASMEE Materials

Aloha colleague,

All of the conversations, exercises, etc. are original, except for the Kidney Transplant Values Clarification item. I very recently changed all the names, some of the ages, and all of the place names from the original Cengage work, but I liked the tone and the balance of ages, family structure, etc., so I tried to stick as close to the original as I could. I plan to use this updated version for the current school year. This time through, I noticed that the number “6” looked was a “b,” so I think that what I found online a few years ago might have actually been scanned from a Cengage book.

This collection remains among my unpublished work because the diagrams of hands and bones, etc. are also “borrowed” from various online sites about a decade ago.

I authored a completely bilingual self-study medical conversation book for trade publisher Natsume, which I use as homework for these groups. I insist that they purchase their own original copy, rather than get one from an upperclassman, because the work is encyclopedic with a detailed glossary and index, so they can look up vocabulary and situations at a future time in their career. It comes with a CD, so it is a bit behind the times. My plan is to update it soon with online support. Some of the phrases and situation in the conversations from my classroom materials are mirrored in the work and it contains a list of lay expressions. There was also a booklet with some similar material designed for a private company in Tokyo that was holding pre-Pandemic weekend seminars for doctors. That work included exercises and role play suggestions.

If you would like to use or adapt any of these conversations or exercises for your own classroom, I am happy to grant you permission. I just ask that you let me know.

Thank you.
